Troop History
Troop 322 was originally chartered as Troop 32 in February of 1949. The Troop began with fourteen young men, many of which grew up to be leaders of our community. The Troop continued to flourish and has been involved in many new, scout events. They were the first troop in the entire United States to take the Boy Scout 50 Mile Hike. This hike was a round trip from Hueytown AL to Bucksville AL. In 1959, the troop experienced changes that lead to a new sponsor, the First United Methodist Church of Hueytown. The Boy Scout Council renumbered the troop as Troop 322.
With the support of the new sponsor, Troop 322 continued to flourish at it’s new home. Troop 322 has had as many as 38 boys and as few as 6 in it’s history. Several Scoutmasters have helped the newer generations of young boys to grow into young men. Troop 322 has always been one of the leading troops in the Birmingham area. Since 1954, this troop has had over 80 young men to earn the highest rank of Scouting, Eagle Scout. Pack 322 has been part of our Scouting program for over 40 years. Our Troop works closely the Pack and helps the younger Scouts whenever we can, We continue to try to meet the challenges and requirements for the boys of the 21st Century.
